Social Skills Therapy Group for children aged 7-14
All sessions are led by a Speech-Language Pathologist
A variety of self-awareness and interpersonal skills are learned. We start with basic social skills - looking toward a speaker, respecting personal body space, and developing a sensitivity to and understanding subtle, or not so subtle social cues. We learn about emotions and non-verbal language. We then teach listening and communication skills. We work at developing the skills and self-confidence to initiate and maintain a conversation with peers. The beauty of the group setting is that all of these skills can be practiced in a very realistic way.
Next, we teach some of the more individual skills necessary for healthier relationships – learning how to recognize ‘black and white’ thinking and developing the capacity to think in shades of grey, problem identification and problem solving, adjusting our behaviour to match the size of a problem. Finally, we teach children the skills they need to deal with teasing and bullying, and we work at using expected behaviours and WE vs ME Thinking. Some sessions may be formatted around the Social Thinking curriculum developed by Michelle Garcia Winner.

Let's Connect, social evenings for kids/teens aged 10-15
All sessions are led by a Speech-Language Pathologist or an Occupational Therapist
This 8-week group is designed for kids and teens who have taken our social skills groups and who want to connect with others in a less structured and fun environment.
We provide some structured activities, and some non-structured activities and outings that are geared toward typical interests of kids and teens. We anticipate and hope that you will meet other kids/teens who are like-minded so that you can continue to connect outside of, and after, the group is completed.
We will poll group members at the beginning of the session about the games and activities that each member likes and try to accommodate each member’s needs at some point during the eight-week group. Each week will include dinner and an activity that may take place within the clinic or will be at various locations that are nearby.
Once you meet up with others at the group, we hope that you can plan your own get togethers with the people you connect with.
